Microfusion Investment Casting: For finer things in life!

Microfusion is done when the aim is to perfect the minute details in the finishing of a metal product. The process of microfusion is extremely   technical and it is essential for it to be carried out by a company that holds expertise in that field. The company and the process of microfusion should ensure top-notch quality of the metal products.

In India, microfusion is widely performed by several companies and it  is a task that needs to be done with utmost precision. For a consumer to have faith in the end result of the products, it is essential for the company doing it to have a history of successful microfusion investment casting.

Sumangal investment casting, a company based in Rajkot, is well recognized for the manufacturing and exporting of investment castings all around the world, mainly in microfusion. Rajkot is considered to be the largest centre of investment castings in India and Sumangal castings are the best in the market. They ensure the best quality for all their products and have formed a strong consumer base.

Microfusion investment casting is one of the many popular castings done by Sumangal. The process of microfusion includes carrying the intricacies in metal products and covering the tiniest details to make it a complete product. However, before beginning with the process of microfusion, it is important to be educated with a few relevant rules that include standards and approval.
  1. Standards- Maintaining international standards while manufacturing products through the microfusion is the first rule. It should also meet the needs of international and domestic OEMs. The end result of the products have to match the two standards and should be made only under expert supervision and experience. Microfusion is detailed but helpful.
  2. Approval- To assure good product quality, it is necessary to move forward only after receiving a go-ahead from the leading companies. The skillfulness of a company in microfusion should be one of the first few things that should be taken into account.

The Microfusion process is a seven-step procedure.

  • Putting together devices- To begin with the process of microfusion, the first step is creating a tool or a die by virtue of various machines. The wax that is pressurized to fill in the hollow space results in attaining the wax pattern. The hollow space in the tool is similar as to the original cast. Aluminium alloys are considered as the go-to for processes like these, since they come in handy with a lot of advantages like having good strength and making several other steps easy.

  • Wax order formation- The use of petroleum wax is widespread in such processes, that involve the development of a pattern. The petroleum wax is first melted by following the QCP requirement. It is usually in the semi-liquid form. The cavity is then filled with the melted wax, which is carried out by putting the pattern into the press. Post this, the wax is left to cool.

  • Assembling- Assembly is prepared through the procedure of making it runner, riser, and spur, which is made with the help of the wax to wax extrusion press. Further on, the prototype is dipped into the ceramic slurry, to provide a thick layer. It is tough to acquire the correct thickness in the first go. Hence, the dipping process needs to be repeated. This process strengthens the quality and makes the product more sturdy.

  • Dewaxing, melting and pouring- The step is very detailed. For melting and taking out the wax, a chamber named ‘dewaxing autoclave’ is used where a high pressure steam is injected. In order to make the shell bare the harsh temperature to pour the flowing metal, the shell is first baked in a furnace. After the shell turns out to be sturdy, the liquified metal is dropped in.

  • Cutting of the shell- It is important to first let the streaming metal become unheated. Once it hardens, shattering the shell into pieces is a way of cutting it.

  • Machining- Last but not the least, grit blasting and pneumatic grinding are used for closing the procedure of the metal cast. IN CNC and VMC,the types of casting done are semi assembly and machined casting.

  • Inspection & dispatch- The final step in the process of microfusion is inspection followed by dispatch. Several tests are conducted in order to make sure that the condition of the complete product remains as promised. Post conducting the tests, it is passed on to packaging correctly, then it is dispatched.
Going through microfusion has its own advantages. Microfusion helps in reducing the cost of production by being a reliable method that helps in meeting the international standards. Just as complicated as microfusion seems, it is helps in achieving what is expected from a finished metal product. Microfusion from Sumangal castings has become the ideal duo.

What’s the process of investment casting?

Investment casting is also known as lost-wax casting. It’s a process used by investment casting manufacturers in which a duplicate metal sculpture is made from an original sculpture. Intricate designs and work can be achieved through investment casting. Wax pouring and removal After the mould making is done hot melted wax is poured in the cast to create an inner lining to form an even coating. The hollow wax copy is removed from the mould. Chasing and spruing The hollow wax copy is then chased. In this process, a hot metal tool is used to even out any marks left and the wax is dressed to hide any imperfections to prepare the final finished look. Now, the wax looks like a finished piece. After this, the wax copy is sprued with a tree-like structure that’s meant to provide a path for the air to escape and the molten material to flow. Slurry A sprued wax copy is dipped into the slurry of silica and then sand-like stucco. The shell is prepared and allowed to dry. This process is repeated t
